2012 Les Grands Carmes de Simone Rosé. A.O.C. Palette, Provence. France. 13.5%

A dry rosé made from a blend of 45% Grenache 30% Mourvèdre 5% Cinsault 20% Syrah, Castet, Manosquin, Carignan & various Muscats and spent 8-12 months in small oak barrels on fine lees. Deeper in colour than the Chateau Minuty

Aged in French barrels for 18 months. Vines for this was planted in 1853 and Hewitson reckon it is most likely the oldest Mourvèdre vineyard in the world. Ready to drink and has shed its deep violet colour. Very fine

The thing I love about Mourvèdre is it’s ripe, red fruits backed with graphite and a lick of iron stone. This wine has that, so a big tick so far. Flavours of Chinese mushrooms stewed in five spice sauce. No
