2012 Mairena Malbec. Mendoza, Argentina. 13.9%

Vineyards at 1000m altitude. 6 months in French oak.

Mairena Malbec

Ripe fruits of red cherry and plum with a refreshing tart cranberry crunch. Turkish delight notes along with coffee, cloves and liquorice add a nice savoury edge. Lick of vanilla from the oak influence. Some light violet floral notes.

Easy gentle tannins. Well balanced and integrated wine with a moderately long finish. Good acid spine. Velvety silky mouthfeel.

Overall, a pretty good value wine and good introduction to the Malbecs of Argentina.

Tasted 18th April 2015.

Source : Sample from Red Wax wines. RRP $35. I have seen it on the shelves at the Re Store in Leederville.
