2006 Tyrrell’s Wines Single Vineyard Stevens Hunter Shiraz. Hunter Valley, NSW. 13.5%

I’ll start by saying that I don’t have a lot of experience with Hunter Valley Shiraz. Been keen to explore more, so when I saw this on the shelf, it just had to be bought.

Tyrrell’s Stevens Shiraz

Sublime flavours of cherries, raspberry, blueberry. Hints of Chinese five spice and cardamom. Slight savoury aspects of sweetened beetroot puree.

Elegant and balanced with no alcohol heat evident on the palate.

Beautiful fragrant, well rounded wine that whispers to you. Sublime elegance. Pay attention and you will be rewarded.

Highly recommended.

Thinking a dish I had the other night would match this perfectly. It was Mushrooms on beetroot puree and truffle shavings. Yum.

Bought from Re-Store in Leederville for about $40

Tasted 6th September 2013

  1. Ooooo – that’s a great wine for you to gain a bit more insight into Hunter Shiraz. The dish you described would have been right on!
