2011 Y d’Yquem. Bordeaux. 14%

Y d’Yquem 1   Y d’Yquem 2

This is famous sweet wine maker, Chateau Yquem’s dry white wine and is as rare as hen’s teeth.

At first sip, I had shivers running down my spine and goosebumps appear on my arms. Electrifying. Beautiful poise and length. The energy that this wine has! How did they squeeze so much flavour and intensity into a bottle?

Not going to attempt a tasting note, as I don’t think I’ll do this justice. Just sat back and enjoyed over 3 days. I did note that this wine was at its best on day 1 and by day 3, it had lost some of its “spark”.

Would I buy this again? Probably not, as I think the 2010 Opalie de Chateau Coutet I tried earlier in July to be much better value. Certainly glad I did grab a bottle to try.

$485 from Steves Fine Wine and Food.

Tasted 18th July 2013

This sounds very interesting, but at $175 USD I will have to pass – there are many wines to try in 1/10th of the price category… Thanks for sharing!
