2005 Dal Forno Romano, Valpolicella Superiore D.O.C. Veneto, Italy. 15%

Dal Forno Romano, Valpolicella Superiore

Blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Croatina and Rondinella.

Shimmering purple in colour.

A wine of immense proportions, but all held in check.

Huge mouth filling flavours of dark chocolates, black olive tapanade.

Slight gaminess along with sour cherries, blackberries, black tea, rosemary, nutmeg really ignite my taste buds.

Unbelievable long lasting after taste. Very grippy firm tannins. This should age very well.

Could do with a big plate of wild boar ragu fettuccine with shaved truffles. 15% alc? You would never know.

Classy wine and highly recommended. Needs time in bottle to become truly great. A benchmark Valpolicella. Trying to find more now.

Source: Present. I am lead to believe this is around the $100 mark.

Tasted 24th June 2013
