2009 Vasse Felix Heytesbury. Margaret River. 14.5%

Vasse Felix Heytesbury 1

69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Petit Verdot, 15% Malbec. Matured in French oak barriques for 18 months.

First whiff and you know its Margaret River Cabernet. Has that eucalypt mixed with gravel that I associate with the M.R. Cab.

Fine dusty tannins. Ripe plums, stewed rhubarb.

Juicy blackberries, cassis, dark chocolate.

Ripe and intense wine. Overflowing with flavour but has a certain restraint about it.

Was a special email offer from a group called “D’or to Door” based in South Australia. $55 by the dozen. Normally retails around $90. Looks like it could have been a cancelled US export order with the “Surgeon General” warning on the back label.
