2012 Didi Wines Piniolo. Adelaide Hills. 14%

Didi Wines Piniolo 1   Didi Wines Piniolo 2

According to its website, this is a Pinot Noir with a touch of Nebbiolo in the mix.

Well, what do you know? A Pinot that I actually love.

Beautifully fragrant and floral on the nose. So much heady perfume in the glass.

Bright cherries, red berries and roses. Gently scented with oregano, dark chocolate and prosciutto.

Does not have that “bitter stalks” that I find detracting in so many Pinots.

Almost feminine on the palate. A beguiling wine that draws you in with each sip then showcases its incredibly long, lingering aftertaste. Maybe it’s the dash of Nebbiolo that is seducing me?

At last, a wine that has that peacock’s tail finish that I have seen so often referred to in Pinots.

Highly recommended. Loved this so much I went back to buy more for the cellar, only to find that it was completely sold out. Oh well, many other wines to try instead.

From Steve’s Food & Fine Wine. Approx $60

Tasted 30th April 2013
