2008 Best’s Thomson Family Shiraz. Great Western. 14.5%

Best’s Thomson Family Shiraz

A distinguished gentleman.

Bouquet of ripe plums, stewed in star anise. Overtones of curry leaf, ginger, black pepper and peppermint. Smoked cherries and chinotto on the finish.

Superfine tannins. Elegant, complex but not obvious. Gorgeous mouthfeel.

Stopped all of us talking as we sat in awe of this wonderful wine. Each sip revealed more and more.

Huge fan of this marvellous wine. I would rather buy a 6 pack of this over a single Grange anyday. Made from vines planted in 1867.

A friend brought this around to share over dinner. I believe the retail is around the $120 mark. Was available at Steve’s, but it is all sold out. Will be looking out for subsequent vintages.

Tasted 27th April 2013
