2003 Chateau Palmer. Margaux, Bordeaux. France. 12.5%

Chateau Palmer 1

Silky tannins. Nose of plums, cassis and cigar box.

Has controlled power that slowly unfurls in your mouth.

Sweet fruited with blackcurrants the star.

A touch of slightly earthy praline dark chocolates.

Lingers very nicely on the palate.

An elegant, pretty wine.

I have heard that the wines from Margaux described as feminine. Now I know what they mean.

A joy to drink one of the world’s benchmark wines. Drinking well now, but will cellar easily for 5+ years.

Apparently this was rated by Robert Parker at 89 points. With respect to someone with far more tasting experience, I completely disagree. I found this to be an excellent wine.

Approx $430 from Steve’s Fine Wine & Food.

Tasted 9th February 2013
