An evening of Houghton Jack Mann held on 23rd September 2012.
Have to say that Jack Mann is one of my favourite wines. They are predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Malbec and / or Shiraz in the blend. Final blend changes from vintage to vintage.
When trying wines like this in a vertical, I try not to be too critical or to analyse too much. I like enjoying the ride that each vintage offers. We had a lovely Asian styled banquet to go with the wines.
94 First ever Jack Mann. Historical. Was a bit cloudy and getting tired. Still drinkable
96 Sensational. Still a baby.
98 Good, big but broad
99 Similar to 98
00 Thin, acidic and somewhat lacking compared to the others
01 Very young. Deep black currants. Yes!
02 This seemed very different to the others. More meaty Shiraz in taste than Cabernet.
My pick of the tasting was the 96 and 01. Beautiful evening.
