2007 Quinta do Noval. Douro. Portugal. 14.5%

A blend of 50% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca and 10% Tinto Cão.

Heard that there is some good red wines being made in Portugal nowadays, so I tracked down this bottle to see what the fuss is about. 95 points by Wine Spectator and another positive review by http://www.winepages.com

What a disappointment!

With food this was just okay. After dinner, this wine showed its true self.

Harsh, bitter tannins… almost raw like. Like tasting unripe grape pips.

Acid was also out of balance and gave me heartburn.

Approx $100 from online retailer www.internationalfinewines.com.au

Tasted 21st October 2012
